Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 5, 2026 · Applies to taverntrivia.app and the Tavern Trivia mobile apps
Tavern Trivia ("we", "us") is a trivia game operated from the United States. This policy explains what we collect, why, who processes it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what the game needs to work, we don't sell your data, and we don't run third-party advertising.
1. Information we collect

Voice mode is processed by your device/browser's built-in speech engine; we receive only the resulting text, not audio recordings.
2. AI processing
Questions are generated and answers are graded by third-party AI providers — Anthropic, Google, and/or OpenAI, depending on configuration. Your answers and chosen round themes are sent to these providers for that purpose only. Under our API agreements, this content is not used to train their models.
3. What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your personal information.
- We don't run third-party advertising or ad trackers.
- We don't collect precise location, contacts, or photos.
- We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13 (see §8).
4. Guests
Joining a multiplayer game as a guest requires only a display name. Guest play is linked to a temporary token, not an identity. Guest answers and scores are retained as part of the host's game record.
5. Service providers
We share data only with the processors that run the service: Clerk (authentication), Stripe (payments), Anthropic / Google / OpenAI (AI generation and grading), PostHog (product analytics), Cloudflare (hosting, database, and network), and Deezer / Wikimedia (fetching media for picture and music rounds — your answers are never sent to them). Each receives only what its function requires.
6. Retention
Account and gameplay data is retained while your account is active. Finished multiplayer game records are retained so participants can see results. Analytics data is retained per PostHog's standard retention. When you delete your account, personal data is deleted as described in our Data & Account Deletion page.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (e.g., GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly: view your data in the app, or delete your account entirely (see Your Data). For anything else, email privacy@taverntrivia.app. We don't discriminate against you for exercising your rights, and we don't "share" data for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined by the CPRA.
8. Children
Tavern Trivia is not directed at children under 13, and you must be at least 13 (or the minimum age in your country) to create an account. If we learn we've collected personal data from a child under 13, we'll delete it — contact us at privacy@taverntrivia.app.
9. Security & international transfers
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest by our infrastructure providers. Data is processed in the United States; where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses maintained by our processors.
10. Changes
We'll post updates here and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email. Continued use after the effective date means the updated policy applies.
